March – What a Month! Friday the Thirteenth, St. Patrick’s Day, Browse & Brunch, Senior Games, Activities Fund Drive, new residential construction, etc.
Over 20 residents were entered to participate in the Polk Senior Games and many returned with well-deserved medals. Several of our champions are in their nineties; great examples for active living at Florida Presbyterian Homes. The Wellness Committee, chaired by Maryon Bramley, will be posting a listing of the residents who participated in the Senior Games and their results.
Our Activities Fund Drive began on March 1 and is directed by the Finance Committee chaired by Paul Collyer. The goal is $6,000 and the drive is scheduled to end on May 10. Monies donated will support 16 activities. The suggested donation is $30 per resident
($60 per couple). In addition to the $6,000 target, several FPH residents have committed separate donations totaling $4,000 during the year.
The Browse & Brunch was quite successful with over 90 visitors. Terri and Cher successfully planned and carried out this event. Jack Allyn orchestrated the many residents who volunteered their time and talents to greet and chat with guests and potential residents. I must tell about one of our residents who was unable to participate in the meet and greet activity. I was accompanying three potential residents through the ALF who were overjoyed by the pleasant design of the common areas. They said that they would like to see the interior of one of the rooms. Almost immediately we came to a room with an open door on the second floor! The occupant, Virginia Braxton, invited us in. Virginia enthusiastically answered their questions and gave a sales pitch a used car salesman would be envious of! Twenty minutes later, the ladies said that they definitely wanted to become residents of FPH.
Please enjoy the outdoors during the month of April, which is at the threshold of Florida’s famous summer.
